Ultrasonography (US)
Ultrasonography, commonly called sonography, is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues, or blood flow inside the body.
Using the highest class latest generation ultrasonography equipment GE Voluson E6, the following ultrasonographic examinations are performed at the Zemgale Health Center:
- abdominal organs (liver, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, spleen, kidneys, bladder);
- thyroid gland;
- lymph nodes and salivary glands;
- muscles;
- tendons and joints;
- peripheral nerves;
- pregnant women;
- gynecological;
- breast - adults only;
- Testis;
- prostate transabdominal and transrectal;
- investigation of injuries, inflammation and various other diseases.
Preparing for the ultrasonography examination:
- ultrasonography of the breast, thyroid, throat, kidney, testicles, peripheral blood vessels, fetus: no special preparation is required;
- abdominal ultrasonography: the examination should be performed on an empty stomach (before eating for at least 6-8 hours), drink only water and take the necessary daily medications by swallowing with water;
- bladder ultrasonography: approximately 1 liter of fluid should be ingested approximately 1 hour prior to the examination. The bladder should not be emptied until the test.
